Back To Being Eligible- an enjoyable story about love
Thursday, 28th August 2014
Mrinalini Patwardhan Mehra takes an entertaining look at what love is, what it is not, what it could be.....
NEW DELHI, India –Many girls grow up ‘believing in love’. For them it is a goal; a right; a striving, around which they weave the rest of their ambitious life. In her new novel,
Mrinalini Patwardhan Mehra gives us a good, gripping, unputdownable story.
Mrinalini creates a charismatic ‘girl next door’ persona Mridula, who has an innocence
and an honesty, in a narrative about herself, along with her own chuckling self observations along the way.
“Back To Being Eligible” (published by Partridge India) is Mridula’s journey through the idea of love; and she tells it, chattering non-stop to the reader, who just cannot but keep turning the pages.
Set in India around the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, Mridula, supposedly a famous novelist, retells her experiences from when she was an intelligent and beautiful twenty year old.
Surprises, passions, successes and heartbreaks unfold with a luscious, tasty, smelly, dusty, even painful realness.
The honest telling seems to promise spiritual ‘Aha’ moments further ahead but the novel only flirts with the idea, gripping one’s attention till the last page.
Mehra creates a story which slowly takes off and then it is difficult to stop till the very end.
An unputdownable read.
